Event details

A fascinating journey through time, where watercolours by Harald Borges meet contemporary photographs of the same locations. Through 21 artistic works from the 1960s and 1970s, you get a chance to see how Aarhus has evolved over recent generations.

The idea for the exhibition arose when Yulia Nielsen Reznik and Aage V. Nielsen moved from Moscow to Aarhus in December 2022. Yulia began exploring the city and discovered how many of the subjects from Harald Borges' artistic documentation had changed significantly. This became the starting point for a project that compares history with the present in a unique and inspiring way.

Harald Borges was dedicated to capturing old Aarhus before urban renewal and street thoroughfares would transform it. His watercolours now prove to be valuable testimony to the city's past. The exhibition presents prints of his works side by side with modern photographs of the same locations and buildings.

The exhibition focuses on three central areas of Aarhus: the area around Domkirken and the surrounding streets, Nørreport and Studsgade, and Vestergade, Grønnegade and Møllestien. Perfect for anyone with a connection to the city – whether you were born and raised here, went to school or studied in Aarhus.
