How do we navigate a daily life full of temptations? We are constantly surrounded by numerous temptations – sugary foods, social networks, gambling, shopping and alcohol – and must repeatedly choose between giving in or exercising self-control. Why is it so challenging to resist temptations? What processes unfold in the brain when we are exposed to temptations? And how can one prevent satisfaction from developing into addiction?
Jakob Linnet, psychologist and MD, head of the specialised clinic for gambling addiction and BED at Odense University Hospital, presents insights from current research in addiction psychology. The focus is on understanding how addiction patterns develop, and he highlights an important point: it is not the activity itself that dominates our behaviour, but rather the expectation and acquisition of reward that influences us most.
Participants receive practical strategies to recognise and change unhelpful patterns. The lecture also covers managing more serious cases such as gambling addiction, alcohol abuse and overeating.
