Weight loss is about much more than willpower alone. When blood sugar drops, the body can experience physical hunger signals, while the gut simultaneously communicates with the brain about the need for food. Yet hunger also manifests as cravings for specific foods – even after eating enough. Sometimes it feels almost impossible to stop eating, even when full.
This lecture explores the biological mechanisms behind hunger and satiety – what processes occur in the body, gut, and brain? How does this knowledge help us prevent and treat conditions like type 2 diabetes and overweight?
Excess weight has increased significantly over several decades. What drives this trend, and what role does modern weight loss medication play in addressing it?
Meet physician and researcher Nikolaj Rittig from Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus and Aarhus University, as well as professor of epidemiology Christina C. Dahm from Aarhus University. Science journalist Line Friis Frederiksen moderates the discussion.
