South Korea has become a global cultural powerhouse in just a few years through K-pop, film, and drama series, yet the country faces serious societal challenges: political unrest, rising unemployment, and record-low birth rates affect the population. Journalist Malene Jensen explores this complex contradiction and asks how international success can coexist with a society under pressure.
Drawing on her experience as a correspondent for outlets including Weekendavisen, Politiken, DR, TV2, and BBC, Jensen examines the forces shaping modern South Korea and the country's role in the world. She illuminates everyday life for ordinary South Koreans and analyzes how South Korea will develop in the future. Jensen is the author of "A Life Without Men: Stories from South Korea's Gender War" (Svane og Bilgrav 2026) and regularly contributes to Danish media as an expert on the country.
