Discover the traces of remarkable women throughout Aarhus' cityscape. AarhusGuiderne takes you on a fascinating walk through the city, meeting pioneering women from around 1850 to the present day – from equality and voting rights to their significant roles in politics, economics, culture and society.
The walk begins at Museet KØN, where the stories of Denmark's first women's rights advocate Mathilde Fibiger and the Danish Women's Association unfold – along with glimpses of the feminist movement and the debate when the museum changed its name in 2021. From there, you walk through central Aarhus and meet, among others, the first female city councillor, police officer and nursing home director. You'll hear about the school inspector who fought for examination rights at the first private girls' school, as well as about female artists, musicians and entrepreneurs from later times who shaped the city. The walk concludes at the Harbour Front with Karin Salling and the Salling Foundation's cultural legacy.
