Experience Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra in a concert dedicated to the Nordic big band tradition. The orchestra explores the distinctive Scandinavian sound that has developed across Denmark, Norway, Sweden and the Nordic region over decades—a blend of American jazz heritage and Nordic tonality, where power and rhythm meet openness and melodic resonance.
The concert features music from influential Nordic composers and arrangers such as Lars Møller, Geir Lysne, Jakob Buchanan, Jon Balke and Bengt Hallberg, each of whom has shaped modern Scandinavian jazz and big band music. The concert journeys through generations and diverse expressions within the Nordic jazz scene.
Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra is an elite big band made up of the region's most talented young jazz musicians from Region Midtjylland. The orchestra is conducted by John Alexander Riddell, a composer, arranger and drummer who founded and has led the orchestra since 2012. Riddell is a graduate of Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium and has studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music, as well as completed advanced masterclasses in New York with leading musicians including John Riley and Adam Nussbaum.
