Ditte Dahl Knudsen shares her personal story of living with eating disorder, anxiety and low self-esteem. As a former elite dancer, she recounts her more than 13-year battle with anorexia – from experiencing performance pressure and perfectionism in the dance world to multiple intensive stays in psychiatry and three years in supported housing.
The lecture explores what it feels like to struggle with an eating disorder behind a façade of control. Ditte reflects on the significance of treatment – and the striking differences across treatment facilities – as well as how crucial it is to be met as a person rather than a diagnosis. She speaks openly about the importance of relationships, family and environment, along with her experiences of relapse, shame, control and hope.
This is a moving and important insight into psychological vulnerability, humanity and the path to greater wellbeing – presented by someone who has walked through the system and found their way back.
