What emerges when artists and scientists collaborate? This afternoon explores the encounter between art and science through an in-depth conversation. We examine how artworks come into being, questions of value assessment, and art's role in debates about environment and climate – particularly when we already understand the facts and feel the consequences in our bodies.
Art registers environmental crises while simultaneously shaping how we perceive them. Visual Science Studio presents practical examples from five years of collaboration between artist Maja Friis and creative producer Sofie Mønster, who have exhibited art-science works at CPH:DOX, Copenhagen Light Festival and the Climate Assembly. Their current exhibition Quotes from the Ice is on view at DOKK1.
Lecturer Anette Vandsø from Aarhus University presents research on how contemporary art addresses environmental questions, and how art has historically responded to major transformations. The discussion is moderated by curator Jeanne Rank Schelde, who specialises in the intersection of art, science and future studies.
Free admission.
