Ensemble Hermes invites you to a powerful musical experience that conveys human resilience through the darkness of war and toward the light of hope. The concert combines masterpieces of classical greatness – Schubert's intimacy in String Quintet in C major, Stravinsky's precise Concerto for Strings, Shostakovich's violent String Quartet No. 8, and centrally Richard Strauss' deeply felt Metamorphosen from 1945 – interwoven with sound clips from the reality of war and a reading of Paul Celan's "Death Fugue".
The ensemble's seven musicians create a flow through space with movement and props that underscore the music and narrative. The title refers to Kaj Munk's poem about the blue anemone that breaks through black earth – a symbol of humanity's ability to resist evil and find hope even in history's darkest chapters. The music and words are woven together into one cohesive work about resistance, grief, and the inextinguishable power of hope.
