An intense and necessary story of sibling love, rootlessness, and the legacy of Yahya Hassan's voice. The theatre production is based on Steffen Stubager's 2024 book and was created at the initiative of Abdullah Hassan.
Yahya Hassan's death in 2020 left his family in grief and shock. His mother and four siblings — Kawther, Khadeeja, Abd Al-Salam, and Abdullah — share their story for the first time, recounting Yahya's upbringing in the Trillegården housing district near Aarhus. Their accounts unfold insights into rootlessness, refugee trauma, family violence, societal failures, and the parallel societies that shape Danish ghettos.
The production is dramatised by award-winning Iraqi-Danish director Sargun Oshana. The four siblings are played by Ellaha Lack, Zere Celik, Arian Kashef, and Wahid Sui. Kurdish singer and musician Rezwan Taha composes new music, writes songs, and performs on stage. A powerful and important theatre study of a closed world — a part of Denmark rarely seen on stage.
