Artist Ditte Knus Tønnesen opens her new solo exhibition at Galleri Image on 6 November. Here she explores landscape, colour and photography as tools to shape how we perceive what we see.
The work draws on a photographic archive collected over more than fifteen years. The landscape functions not merely as neutral scenery, but as physical place, photographic subject and cultural image all at once. The artist works with colour as a structuring element – it marks, highlights and connects, causing other elements in the photographs to emerge or shift.
The exhibition combines colour photographs with black-and-white works in which colour images are incorporated in different ways – both as an integrated part of the photograph itself and as a physical layer on top. The photographic archive does not follow a chronological narrative; encounters with landscapes take their final form at different times, so past, present and potential future exist side by side. Beauty takes on a role as an opening rather than a closing statement – something that makes what we see present while simultaneously opening space for what is not yet in focus.
