What is happening in the world right now? In an era marked by uncertainty, polarization, and major shifts in power, the Folk University and Professor of Intellectual History Mikkel Thorup invite you to a series of philosophical evening lectures at Kulturbodega Bellis. Here we explore classical thinkers such as Kant, Marx, Weber, Freud, Orwell, and Judith Shklar to gain perspective on contemporary times.
This evening focuses on Aimé Césaire's Discourse on Colonialism from 1950. The text was written at the threshold of the decolonization movement and examines how colonialism not only harmed the colonies but also Europe itself. Drawing on Césaire's analysis, we reflect on what it means for Europe's self-understanding as the West gradually loses its central role in global politics.
