Folkeuniversitetet and Professor of History of Ideas Mikkel Thorup invite you to a series of philosophical evening lectures at Kulturbodega Bellis. In a world marked by turmoil, polarization, and major transformations, the series revisits some of history's most important thinkers to shed light on current questions and our own times.
Each evening builds on a contemporary theme and a classical text from earlier times of change. Among the featured works are texts from Kant, Marx, Weber, Freud, Orwell, and Judith Shklar. By examining how previous generations sought to understand their world, the series offers perspective on the challenges and possibilities we face today.
This evening focuses on Karl Marx's essay "The Eighteenth Brumaire" from 1852, which explores the forces driving history, the development of class society, and the rise of parliamentarism. The discussion addresses whether humans can still be understood as history-makers, or whether our political room for action is more limited than we imagine.
The series takes place every Tuesday from week 43 through mid-December (with the exception of November 24). The event runs from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Graven 21, 8000 Aarhus C. Admission is 75 kr., which includes a choice of Tuborg beer or lemonade. Tickets are purchased through Aarhus Folkeuniversitet.
