Heat Wave: Contemporary Brazilian Photography is a group exhibition at Galleri Image presenting works by Uýra, Val Souza, Gê Viana, Marco Antônio Filho, Diego Bresani, and Lívia Melzi. Curated by Débora Moritz, the exhibition explores the concept of calor humano – human warmth – connecting continents, climates, and artistic expression.
The title Heat Wave references both meteorological and social phenomena: a surge of energy that creates transformation and shifts perception. Through photography, performance, and artistic interventions, the artists examine the body as a central site of meaning-making. The works draw on oral traditions, embodied knowledge, and diverse histories from across Brazil – from the five geopolitical regions of North, Northeast, Central-West, Southeast, and South, as well as artists from the Brazilian diaspora.
The exhibition opens 21 August 2026 from 4-6 p.m. and runs through a later date. In connection with the exhibition, a symposium on contemporary Brazilian photography will be held on 19 September 2026.
