Heat Wave: Contemporary Brazilian Photography is a group exhibition at Galleri Image presenting works by six Brazilian artists – Uýra, Val Souza, Gê Viana, Marco Antônio Filho, Diego Bresani and Lívia Melzi – curated by Débora Moritz. The exhibition brings these artists to Aarhus and explores the concept of calor humano – human warmth – connecting hemispheres, climates and emotional perspectives.
The title Heat Wave refers both to a meteorological phenomenon and a social intensity: a surge of energy capable of shifting atmosphere and altering perception. Through performance, the body and artistic interventions, the participating artists engage with gesture, identity and memory – often inspired by oral traditions and embodied knowledge. Works from all five Brazilian regions plus artists from the Brazilian diaspora represent different ways of inhabiting shared territory, shaped by diverging histories and environments.
The exhibition offers a space for proximity and exchange, where fragments of lived experience accumulate and resonate. It showcases an art scene that is dynamic, plural and continuously redefining how stories are told.
Opening: 21 August 2026, 4–6 p.m.
In connection with the exhibition, Galleri Image presents a symposium on contemporary Brazilian art photography on 19 September 2026.
