An evening with Danish jazz history in living form. Legendary double bass player Jens Jefsen and his quintet perform at Porter's Jazz Bar with music drawn from over 60 years on the Danish jazz scene.
Jens Jefsen has been a defining figure in Danish jazz for over half a century. From classic jazz evenings at Jazzhus Tagskægget in Aarhus, where he played with American stars like Dexter Gordon and Ben Webster, to close collaborations with Denmark's leading jazz musicians. For his impactful work as bassist, composer, and bandleader, he is now honored at age 80 with the Danish Musicians' Union Honorary Award 2026.
The program consists primarily of Jens Jefsen's own compositions, including brand new pieces from his forthcoming album. On stage with him are guitarist Jacob Djursaa, pianist Dan Hjorth, drummer Chris Falkenberg, and saxophonist Christian Vuust – all from the vibrant Aarhus jazz scene.
The concert is also connected to a book reception for Jens Jefsen's memoir My Life in F Major, written with journalist Stine Bjørk Brøndum. The reception runs from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with the opportunity to purchase the book the day before its official release.
