Kayak polo is handball on water – two teams compete to score the most goals using small specialized "polo kayaks". You start by learning basic paddling technique, and after some capsizing drills you'll become comfortable both above and below water. Expect to get some water in your head – it becomes less as you practice.
Training focuses on essential skills such as assisted rescues, kayak rolls (Greenland rolls), paddling technique, throwing exercises, and rules and tactics for defense and attack. All equipment – polo kayak, paddle, helmet, spray skirt and vest – is provided.
As a beginner you can join from just 500 kr. (valid until March), then 1,500 kr. annually, which also grants access to the club's sea kayak division. Aarhus Kayak Polo Club trains at multiple levels with a focus on both serious practice and enjoyment. The club participates annually in the Danish championship tournament and other events. Free trial training is offered – arrive in swimwear, t-shirt and recommended thick socks or neoprene shoes.
