From ancient seabeds to modern climate technology: this exhibition explores chalk, the white material upon which Denmark is built. Through photographs and narratives that span millions of years of ocean history, you gain insight into how chalk has fundamentally shaped our land and architecture.
From the mines of Mønsted and cliffs of Fur to Aalborg Portland and the chalk paintings in Aarhus Cathedral, the works document how this mineral has been essential to Danish construction. The exhibition also introduces the scientific perspective – researchers present their work investigating whether the Danish underground could be key to future CO2 capture.
The work is based on an article series by researcher Isaac Appelquist Løge and photographs by David Bering from Montgomery, supported by the Carlsberg Foundation's Memorial Fund. Free admission.
