Experience Olivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time, one of the most significant chamber music works of the twentieth century. The piece was composed by the French composer Olivier Messiaen in 1940-41 during his imprisonment in a German prisoner-of-war camp, and it centers on faith’s triumph over death with inspiration from passages in the Book of Revelation. Messiaen is regarded as one of the most important French composers of the 20th century and is known for his distinctive sound world and strong spiritual inspiration.
The concert features Clara Richter-Bæk on violin, Katrín Birna Siguardóttir on cello, Isolda Juncosa on clarinet, and Lene Buch Rasmussen on piano. The instrumentation reflects the original scoring, which arose from the musicians available at the premiere on an icy January evening in 1941 before 5000 prisoners and guards. The concert takes place at Hasle Sognehus, and admission is 50 kr.
