Experience the poetic and minimalist Icelandic film 'Joan of Arc' (Jóhanna af Örk) at Kunsthal Aarhus's intimate cinema. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Hlynur Pálmason, who graduated from the National Film School of Denmark in 2013 and debuted with 'Winter Brothers' in 2017. His latest work, 'The Love That Remains', was presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2025.
The story unfolds on Iceland's east coast, where twin boys and their older sister build a knight figure—which they name Joan of Arc—fastened to a stump. Using a fixed camera as an artistic device, the film portrays their play, patience and the changing Icelandic weather in a beautiful and very funny portrait of childhood and the passage of time.
Screening November 5, 6.00-7.00 pm. Also shown in a loop on November 7, 11 am-6 pm. Free admission, limited seating.
