This masterclass explores the works and thinking of two pivotal pioneers of abstract art: Paul Klee and Vasilij Kandinsky. Both artists taught at the legendary Bauhaus art school, which opened in Germany in 1919, and their experiments with color, form, and new ways of expressing emotional states became influential for artists throughout the 20th century.
Vasilij Kandinsky (1866-1944), born in Russia, was inspired by music's power to convey moods and believed that artistic works through their forms and colors could achieve the same emotional effect. Paul Klee (1879-1940), a Swiss artist, focused intensively on color choices and created dreamlike compositions that, like Kandinsky's works, sought to affect the viewer's emotional experience without being figurative or recognizable.
The masterclass is led by ARoS' outreach assistant Martin Bjerg Dahl, who holds a master's degree in Aesthetics and Culture with Art History as a specialization and possesses extensive experience in art historical outreach and lecturing.
