How do our physical surroundings affect brain activity, our bodies, and our mental well-being? This lecture explores questions about the connection between space, design, and human health through the lens of the latest research in neuroarchitecture, health-focused design, and the healing effects of nature.
Lecturer Zakaria Djebbara from Aalborg University, who works at the intersection of architecture and cognitive neuroscience, and lecturer Dorthe Varning Poulsen from Copenhagen University, specialist in nature-based therapy and health promotion, share insights into how specific design elements — such as ceiling height, acoustics, lighting, green spaces, and landscape form — influence our behavior, psychological well-being, and social thriving. They illuminate why these connections matter to us and how we can apply this knowledge in practice: in designing our homes and gardens, in the development of new buildings and treatment spaces, and in our daily use of the city and nature.
Science journalist Line Friis Frederiksen moderates the conversation. The event is part of the Folk University's knowledge festival Hearts & Minds.
