OperaCinema 26/27 - FALSTAFF from Salzburg Festival 2013 tells the story of Sir John Falstaff, a vain, boastful bon vivant who tries to seduce two married women in order to trick money out of them. His scheme backfires when the clever wives see through him and make a fool of him. In this production, director Michieletto places the action in a contemporary, highly symbolic setting: a home for aging musicians inspired by Casa Verdi. Here, Falstaff appears not only as Shakespeare’s comic figure, but as a former opera star reliving his own life and roles through memories and dreams, turning the opera into both comedy and a reflection on age, identity, and the transience of an artistic life.
The cast includes Amborgio Maestri as Falstaff, Fiorenza Cedolin as Alice Ford, Stephanie Houtzeel as Meg Page, and Elisabeth Kulman as Mrs Quickly. Conducted by Zubin Mehta. Admission: 180 kr. Venue: Øst for Paradis.
