George Balanchine's classic The Nutcracker is brought to the screen in this magnificent film version featuring New York City Ballet. This iconic work has been an annual tradition at Lincoln Center since 1954, captivating generations of audiences with its magical storytelling and audacious choreography.
Tchaikovsky's beloved music transforms into a fairytale world of mischievous mice, toy soldiers, snowstorms, and an enchanted candy land. Balanchine's spectacular choreography shines in breathtaking scenery and costumes, most notably a stunning Christmas tree—weighing one ton and growing to an impressive 12 meters in height—and the finale's millions of watts of light creating unforgettable visual moments.
The production features over 150 dancers and musicians as well as more than 125 children from School of American Ballet in rotating roles. Leading soloists include Megan Fairchild, Joaquin De Luz, and Ashley Bouder. Conductor Fayçal Karoui leads the New York City Ballet Orchestra.
