A special string concert where we zoom in on the string instruments in a classical symphony orchestra. Woodwinds, brass, and percussion have the day off, allowing both musicians and audience to fully immerse themselves in the characteristic sounds that only strings can produce.
The concert is part of the RAMA CLASSIC festival, a mini-festival at the Jyske Musikkonservatorium, which presents the different instrument groups that make up a symphony orchestra. In total, four concerts on Friday and Saturday, where each concert showcases a particular group – strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. Saturday's closing concert features all groups one after another in the same program.
Young musicians from the conservatory's studies perform the music under the direction of an instructor. Each performance opens with an introduction from one of the conservatory's experienced teachers, who are themselves professional orchestra musicians. By working in smaller groups, the students especially develop their ability to listen to each other and blend the instruments together tonally.
