A special musical evening with two artists who each blend different musical traditions with modern experimentation.
Sessa (Sergio Sayeg from Brazil) is known for his unconventional approach to music — he freely plunders from rock, jazz, samba and soul and puts it all together without blinking. Like the iconic Brazilian Tropicalistas from the late 1960s, Sessa explores "the mess" in music and the crooked translations that happen when music travels the world. Raised in São Paulo but based in New York, Sessa builds his universe on acoustic guitar, Afro-Brazilian percussion and his distinctive vocals together with familial female choruses. His latest album, Pequena Vertigem de Amor (Lil' Vertigo of Love), from 2019 onwards, draws on the discreetly sophisticated 1970s Brazilian MPB scene and the psychedelic soul of Sly Stone and Shuggie Otis.
Víctor Herrero (Madrid, born 1981) is a guitarist and composer whose work moves between classical and folk traditions, experimental music and the musical heritage of the Iberian Peninsula. He began his education with Gregorian chant, Mozarabic music and classical music before focusing on classical guitar. Over the years he has released acclaimed works such as Anacoreta, Estampida, Astrolabio, Hermana and Pajarito Negro, and worked closely with American Josephine Foster. His distinctive approach blends historical musical languages with contemporary expression and experimentation.
