The Last Paradise on Earth is an award-winning Faroese feature film screened as part of Dokk1's monthly Sunday film programme. The film won the Nordic Council Film Prize and tells the story of Kári, a down-to-earth man living in a small village on one of the Faroe Islands' most remote islands. When the fish factory—the community's sole economic foundation—faces closure, workers seek new solutions. Unlike many of his peers, Kári chooses to stay on the island and face the challenges head-on, holding true to his love of the simple life and his homeland.
Directed by Sakaris Stórá and produced by Jon Hammer, the film explores themes of rootedness, resilience, and the hope of preserving one's heritage in a world constantly pushing for change.
Every first Sunday of the month, Dokk1 in collaboration with Aarhus Series & Film Festival presents a film screening featuring a mix of genres—documentaries, feature films, animations, and both classics and contemporary works from Denmark and around the world.
