IBBY Salon: The Meaningful Illustrations

IBBY Denmark and Albus Festival invite you indoors for conversations about how text and images work together in illustrated stories. The festival has invited international guests, so the talks are held in English.

Aurore D'Hondt, Patrick Ness, Tea Bendix and Kristin Roskifte have all published books that take on big and sometimes difficult questions with a philosophical undertone. Here, the visuals play a significant role in how you understand the story and the people it describes.

Programme

• 16.00-16.15: Joint welcome by Sif Lüscher Rauff (Albus Festival) and Sophie Fuglesang (IBBY)
• 16.15-16.45: Conversation with Tea Bendix and Patrick Ness, moderated by Sophie Fuglesang. The topic is the collaboration behind Different for Boys, and how Tea's visual language and Patrick's text create a special reading experience.
• 16.45-17.00: Break
• 17.00-17.30: Conversation with Aurore D'Hondt and Kristin Roskifte, moderated by Lisa Stolt Rasmussen (IBBY board member). The focus is how to illustrate the incomprehensible and hard-to-reach, and how visual language can make complex, universal themes understandable to children.
