Experience a literary conversation about N.F.S. Grundtvig, where historian and author Jes Fabricius Møller presents his new biography of one of Denmark's most important figures.
For 200 years, Grundtvig has stood as a monument in Danish history, but this book explores the person behind the legend — with all its needs, drives, weaknesses and conflicts. The book follows Grundtvig's journey from his childhood home in South Zealand to his state funeral in 1872, and covers his life as a teacher, translator, politician and priest, his three marriages, travels to England and Norway, and his thinking about school and church.
Møller is a lecturer in history at the University of Copenhagen, chairman of the Grundtvig Society and author of several acclaimed works on Danish history and culture. He has critically examined historical sources and challenges several established truths about Grundtvig's life.
