Body, Choir & Voice is a workshop series that brings people together around singing, body awareness and vocal quality at The Ballroom Aarhus – an atmospheric event venue on Ny Banegårdsgade in the heart of the city. The workshop emerges from a collaboration between two experienced musical professionals: pianist, composer and choir director Kristian Bisgaard and musician, choir director and event creator Søren Raffnsøe.
Kristian Bisgaard, trained at the Jutland Music Conservatory, has over 25 years of experience sharing the joy of music and singing. He specializes in choir direction and group singing and is known for his ability to inspire people at all levels – from children to seniors, from small groups to large gatherings. Kristian has contributed to the new Danish hymn book by composing three melodies.
Søren Raffnsøe, trained at the Rhythmic Center in Silkeborg under the Aarhus Music Conservatory, is a recognized name in gospel workshops and large choir productions. He notably led "950 Years of Viborg," directing over 200 singers. As a music teacher, songwriter and composer, Søren has used music and group singing as a foundation for team-building workshops and events across companies and organizations. With his background in gospel choirs and large-scale productions, he has a unique ability to unite people in communal singing, regardless of experience or background. Søren works with body, voice and humor – and through his direction creates spontaneous moments of presence where all voices align rhythmically together.
What happens at the workshop?
The workshop is open to all – regardless of background or experience level. Teaching adapts by taking place in both English and Danish as needed, and includes a natural element of Danish language immersion for those interested. Songs are performed in both Danish and English. Looking ahead, guest soloists and guest input will bring fresh perspectives and elevate the musical energy.
The room is divided into learning areas where different voice groups work in parallel before coming together in a unified sound. The choir experience itself – the moment when voices find each other, bodies begin to move, and the space fills with something greater than the sum of individual voices – is the heart of the workshop. The path leads through group singing, and that meeting between collective singing and choir is the central focus.
Practical Information
The workshop functions as a social event with an edge – both as a kind of pre-party to city life or as a lively alternative to the corporate Friday bar. The Ballroom bar is open before the workshop, during the break and after, so there is opportunity to continue conversations and forge new connections over a drink. The room offers seating and cozy environments for breaks, and a 21-meter multimedia wall provides visual framing for the experience.
Registration is required, but there is the option to pay at the door.
